2000 INSPEC Reload News

INSPEC Reloaded to Reflect 2000 Vocabulary
The Institute of Electrical Engineers has completed the annual vocabulary maintenance for INSPEC. For this reload, there is the addition of the 2000 thesaurus, as well as the addition of a new index and field.

Year 2000 Thesaurus
The thesaurus contains subject headings for the INSPEC database. Using the Thesaurus, you can view terms and their relationships to broader and narrower terms within a hierarchical structure.

Scope notes for Thesaurus terms will be provided where term relationships do not clarify the scope of the preferred term.  Also, a term history may be provided in a scope note to indicate the date of entry into the database and any terms previously used.

Several terms have been deleted or changed. For a complete list of these terms, please visit the INSPEC homepage at http://www.iee.org.uk/publish/inspec/docs/cldl1999.html.

New Field and Index
The Editor (ED) field and an Editor Index have been added for the 2000 reload of the INSPEC database.

The Editor (ED) field contains the names of the editors of an item. The format for editors is Smith AW, or Smith A.

Enter the last name, or if it is a common name, enter the last name and the first initial. If you are unsure of the spelling of the last name (as in, macdonald or mcdonald), enter one version and then scroll through the list of names to find the other.
