Periodical Abstracts is a complete general reference resource that contains indexing and abstracting to significant articles appearing in top general and academic periodicals, as well as full text from more than 600 journals from 1986 to the present.
Covered topics include current affairs, business and industry news and analysis, cultural events and issues, academic topics of general interest, and editorial material that includes commentaries, sports, leisure and travel information, and reviews of books, concerts, exhibitions, films, restaurants and theater. The database currently contains more than two million records. Each record provides full bibliographic information, index terms, document delivery information and a summary of the article.
Ovid features include the following: company, product and personal name indexes; highly specific publication type limits, including those which indicate whether a book, restaurant, performance or event was reviewed favorably; the ability to sort search results by length of full text and numeric dates (not just years), and completely searchable full text.
The following alphabetical list provides the two-letter label, the relevant alias, and at least one example for all searchable PERI fields:

Internet. Classified advertising. Abstract The technology of the Internet means that a newspaper can post its classifieds for a week or so, then take them offline--a procedure traditional online hosts have great technical difficulties doing. Full Text ** Copyright Online Inc 1997 ** Companies, regardless of why they're in business, have one thing in common: They need people. For most companies (really small companies are the exception), this means hiring employees. The typical pattern for filling positions is to post the job internally, then list it in the newspaper and/or relevant trade press. This generates a candidate pool from which the company selects individuals to interview and hire. -sample text truncated- END OF FULL TEXT Publication Type Commentary Entry Week 9711 Length of Full Text 0002916 words. Full Text ** Copyright Gernsback Publications Inc 1996 ** There is absolutely no evidence that combining the 1990's fad of Web browsing with the television fad begun in the 1950's is a workable idea, but profitstarved TV manufacturers and Silicon Valley entrepreneurs are joining forces to test the idea in a large-scale way. Probably the most persuasive force in that direction is WebTV Network, which has signed Sony and Philips (Magnavox) to supply set-top boxes to let consumers surf the Internet on their large-screen TVs from their easy chairs. The box provides on-line access and email service to TV users, and has a slot for smart-card financial transactions. - sample text truncated- END OF FULL TEXT Publication Type News Entry Week 9644 Length of Full Text 0000361 words.
