The database provides the latest news on legislation and regulations, research progress, marketing trends, controversial drug issues, recalls and new drug and device approvals. Newsletters are indexed cover-to-cover and provide details on people, products and companies.

The Entry Week (EW) field consists of the year and week in which a citation was added to Pharmaceutical News Index. The EW field appears in the format YYWW. This field may also be searched using the UP [Update Code] field label. id Identifiers [Word Indexed] example: s794.id. The Identifiers (ID) field appears only in those records which contain specific identifying or descriptive information such as bill and report numbers, references to graphs or tables, significant dates and instructions for obtaining additional information. ip Issue/Part [Word Indexed] example: 1420.ip. The Issue/Part (IP) field contains the issue and/or part for particular volume of a journal. It usually displays as part of the Source (SO) field. is ISSN [Phrase Indexed] example: 0739-4608.is. The ISSN (IS) field contains the International Standard Serial Number for the journal in which an article was published. It appears as an 8-digit number, separated by a hyphen. jc Journal Code [Phrase Indexed] example: fdc.jc. The Journal Code (JC) is an alpha-numeric code which uniquely identifies every journal indexed in the database. jn Journal Name [Phrase Indexed] example: pharma japan.jn. The Journal Name (JN) field contains the journal or newsletter name as it appears in the citation. This field displays as part of the Source (SO) field. jw Journal Word [Word Indexed] example: pink.jw. The Journal Word (JW) field contains individual words from every journal name in Pharmaceutical News Index. Stopwords such as "of" or "the" are not included. pg Page [Phrase Indexed] example: "16".pg. The Page (PG) field consists of the inclusive pagination of a journal article. It is usually displayed as part of the Source (SO) field. sh Subject Headings [Phrase and Word Indexed] example: otc switches.sh. otc switches.de. The Subject Headings (SH) field contains the key words used by Pharmaceutical News Index to describe the main topics addressed in the document. Both words and phrases can be searched. so Source [JN,JW,VO,IP,PG,YR fields] example: medicine.so. The Source (SO) field contains complete bibliographic citation information. The Year (YR) field contains the year in which the document was published. It can be searched as a 2 or 4-digit year. The YR field is displayed as part of the Source field.
